This timeline gives a chronological listing of the main events in the life of the fictitious character Eddard Ned Stark as shown in the TV series Game of Thrones

Before Season 1 Age 0
Ned Stark was born, Eddard Stark, the second son of Rickard and Lyarra Stark. He was commonly known as Ned.
Before Season 1 Age 3
Ned’s sister, Lyanna was born.
Before Season 1 Age 4
Ned’s younger brother, Benjen, was born
Before Season 1 Age 8
Ned Stark was fostered by Jon Arryn at The Eyrie. Robert Baratheon was also being fostered by Jon Arryn and Ned and Robert became good friends.
Before Season 1 Age 18
Ned spent his time at both The Eyrie and Winterfell.
Before Season 1 Age 20
Rickard Stark instructed Ned to take a marriage offer to Robert Baratheon of his sister, Lyanna.
Before Season 1 Age 22
Ned Stark was present at the Tourney of Harrenhal. He met Howland Reed who was to become a firm friend to the Starks. At the end of the tournament Ned, like most of those present, was amazed that Prince Rhaegar Targaryen crowned Lyanna Stark as the Queen of Love and Beauty rather than his wife, Elia of Dorne.
Before Season 1 Age 23
Lyanna Stark disappeared and it was rumoured that she had been abducted by Rhaegar Targaryen. Ned’s father and elder brother went to Kings Landing to protest but were executed by King Aerys Targaryen. Robert Barratheon vowed to avenge his betrothed’s abduction.
Before Season 1 Age 23
Ned Stark became Lord of Winterfell. He made the journey home from the Eyrie to take up the position.
Before Season 1 Age 24
Ned called out the Stark bannermen and marched south to avenge his father and brother’s deaths and join Robert Baratheon’s Rebellion.
Before Season 1 Age 24
Ned Stark married Catelyn Tully, who had been betrothed to his brother Brandon. Jon Arryn married Lysa Tully during the same ceremony.
Before Season 1 Age 24
Ned and his army were present at the Battle of the Trident where his forces, the forces of Robert Baratheon, Jon Arryn and Hoster Tully fought the forces of Rhaegar Targaryan, Lewyn Martell, Barriston Selmy and Jonothor Darry. The Battle was won by Robert Baratheon’s forces. Rhaegar Targaryan, Jonothor Darry and Lewyn Martell were killed.
Before Season 1 Age 24
Robert Baratheon had been injured during the Battle of the Trident so Ned took charge of a force that pursued Aerys Targaryan ‘s forces to Kings Landing.
Before Season 1 Age 24
On reaching Kings Landing Ned Stark discovered that Tywin Lannister had conquered the city. His son Jaime had murdered Aerys Targaryan and his men had killed his wife, Elia Martell and their young children Rhaenys and Aegon
Before Season 1 Age 24
When Robert Baratheon arrived to claim the throne, Ned asked him to send Jamie Lannister to the Nightswatch for failing to protect his King. Robert refused and Ned left Kings Landing to go and find his sister.

Ned Stark found his sister in the Tower of Joy having given birth to a baby boy but she was dying. Lyanna made Ned promise to look after the child. Ned told everyone the child, Jon Snow, was his bastard son.

A son, Robb, was born to Ned and Catelyn Tully.
Before Season 1 Age 24
Relations between Ned Stark and his new wife were strained by the presence of Jon Snow.

A daughter, Sansa, was born to Ned and Catelyn Stark.

A daughter, Arya, was born to Ned and Catelyn Stark.

Ned Stark took a force south to aid Robert Baratheon who was fighting the Greyjoy Rebellion, After Balon Greyjoy surrendered Ned took his son, Theon, as hostage.
Before Season 1 Age 30
A son, Brandon, known as Bran, was born to Ned and Catelyn Stark.
Before Season 1 Age 34
A son, Rickon, was born to Ned and Catelyn Stark.
Season 1 Age 40
After executing a deserter from the Nightswatch, Ned and his children found a litter of five direwolf pups. Each child had one of the pups.
Season 1 Age 40
Ned Stark received notification by raven that Jon Arryn, the King’s Hand had died.
Season 1 Age 40
Ned received a second raven from Lysa Arryn warning that the Lannisters were responsible for Jon Arryn’s death.
Season 1 Age 40
Robert Baratheon arrived at Winterfell and persuaded Ned Stark to become Hand of the King. Ned reluctantly accepted the post.

It was agreed that Ned’s daughter, Sansa should be betrothed to Robert’s eldest son, Joffrey.
Season 1 Age 40
Ned’s son, Bran witnessed Jamie and Cersei having sex. Jamie pushed Bran off the wall hoping the fall would kill him. Bran survived but was paralysed.
Season 1 Age 40
Ned went to Kings Landing with Robert Baratheon. He took Sansa and Arya with him. Catelyn and their other children stayed at Winterfell.

Ned was forced to kill Sansa’s direwolf after an incident where Arya’s direwolf, Nymeria, injured Joffrey but Arya sent Nymeria away so Cersei demanded the death of Sansa’s direwolf instead.

Ned Stark and Robert Baratheon clashed over the news that Daenerys Targaryen had married Dothraki leader, Karl Drogo.
Season 1 Age 40
Petyr Baelish took Ned to his brothel. He was reunited with his wife, Catelyn who had secretly made the journey south to let Ned know that an intruder had tried to kill Bran with a valeryian steel dagger. Baelish revealed that the dagger belonged to Tyrion Lannister.

Having discovered that Arya had a sword, Ned hired Syrio Forel to teach her how to use it properly.
Season 1 Age 40
Ned discovered that while Jon Arryn was Hand of the King he had spent time with Stannis Baratheon and had also visited Robert’s bastard children.

Ned Stark resigned as Hand of the King after Robert demanded the assassination of Daenerys Targaryen who was pregnant.

After visiting Robert’s bastard daughter, Ned was ambushed by Jamie Lannister who wanted revenge for the fact that Ned’s wife, Catelyn had taken Tyrion Lannister captive. Ned was badly injured in his leg.

Robert Baratheon persuaded Ned to stay on as Hand of the King

Ned Stark discovered that Robert was not the father of Cersei’s three children; their father was Jamie Lannister. Eddard confronted Cersei with this. She promptly arranged for Robert’s death.

After Robert’s death Cersei had Ned imprisoned for treason. Petyr Baelish had told Cersei that Ned was plotting to take control of the throne.

Ned agreed to admit to the charge of treason after being promised that his life would be spared and he could join the Nightswatch.

Ned Stark told a packed public square that he was guilty of treason. Joffrey then demanded his immediate execution by beheading. Ned’s head was placed on a spike.

Ned’s body was returned to Winterfell by the new Hand of the King, Tyrion Lannister.
