Rhaenys Targaryen Timeline
Before Season 1 Age 0
Rhaenys was born the only child of Aemon Targaryen, heir to the throne, and his wife Jocelyn Baratheon. Her grandfather was King Jaehaerys I.
Before Season 1 Age 18
Rhaenys’ father died. King Jaehaerys made his second son, Baelon the Brave, heir to the throne rather than Rhaenys.
Before Season 1 Age 25
Rhaenys Targaryen married Corlys Velaryon, Lord of the Tides.
Before Season 1 Age 28
A son Laenor was born to Corlys Velaryon and Rhaenys Targaryen.
Before Season 1 Age 34
A daughter, Laena was born to Corlys Velaryon and Rhaenys Targaryen.
Before Season 1 Age 35
Baelon the Brave, died. It was not clear who should succeed Jaehaerys to the throne. A meeting of the Great Council was held at Harrenhal to decide who should succeed. Rhaenys had a claim to the throne as the eldest child of Aemon, deceased son of King Jaehaerys and older brother of Baelon. However, the Council decided that Baelon’s son Viserys should succeed as King. Rhaenys became known as the Queen that never was.
Season 1 Prologue Age 37
King Jaehaerys I died. Viserys Targaryen became King Viserys I. Corlys was appointed Master of Ships.
Season 1 Age 46
Corlys and Rhaenys attended the tournament held to celebrate the impending birth of a child to King Viserys and Queen Aemma.

During the tournament Viserys was called to the birthing room where he was told that the baby was in the breach position and could not be turned. He was told that the child could be saved if they cut Aemma open but she would die if they did so. Viserys chose to save the child. He sat with his wife as she bled to death. The child died soon after its birth.

The funeral of Queen Aemma and Prince Baelon was held. Rhaenyra Targaryen gave her dragon Syrax the command ‘Dracarys’ to light the funeral pyre.

The small council once again begged Viserys to name his heir stating that Prince Daemon would not be suitable to be King. Corlys, a member of the Small Council, suggested his wife Rhaenys as having a stronger claim but this was dismissed.

King Viserys, Rhaenys and Corlys met in the gardens. Corlys emphasised that Viserys should guard against being seen as weak. He suggested an alliance between Velaryon and Targaryen with a marriage between King Viserys and his 12 year old daughter Leana.

Rhaenys saw Rhaenyra watching her father walking in the gardens with Laena. Rhaenys told Rhaenyra that the country would never accept a woman on the iron throne and that when her father had a son she would be displaced.

Rhaenys and Corlys left Kings Landing for Driftmark after King Viserys announced his intention to marry Alicent Hightower. Corlys then made an alliance with Prince Daemon who had taken Dragonstone to stop the triarchy led by the Crabfeeder.

King Viserys travelled to Driftmark to negotiate a marriage between Rhaenyra and Laenor Velaryon. It was clear that Viserys was unwell.

Rhaenys and Corlys attended the preliminary wedding feast. A fight broke out and Ser Criston Cole killed Laenor’s love interest, Ser Joffrey Lonmouth.

The King’s health worsened after the fight and Laenor and Rhaenyra were married immediately. As soon as they had said their vows the King collapsed.

Rhaenys and Corlys attended the funeral of their daughter, Laena, wife of Prince Daemon, who had ordered her dragon to kill her after she was unable to birth her unborn child. Afterwards they spoke of the succession saying that Rhaenyra’s children were not fathered by Laenor.

Rhaenys and Corlys ran to the great hall where Laenor and Karl had been fighting. Karl had left and it appeared Laenor had been thrown in the fire.

Corlys was badly injured in a battle at the Stepstones. Rhaenys discussed who should succeed to Driftmark with Corlys’ brother Vaemond. She stated that it was Corlys’ wish that Prince Lucerys (Luke) would succeed. Vaemond stated that Luke did not have Velaryon blood and that he, as Corlys’ brother had a better claim.

Rhaenys travelled to Kings Landing, where those with a claim to Driftmark were to petition the King.

Rhaenys spoke to Rhaenyra and implied that Rhaenyra had arranged the murder of Laenor so she could marry Daemon. Rhaenyra stated that she had nothing to do with Laenor’s death. Rhaenyra then suggested that her son, Prince Lucerys (Luke) marry her granddaughter Baela and Jace marry Rhaena. Rhaenys turned down the offer.
Season 1 Age 55
Rhaenys was in the great hall to hear the petitions put forward to claim Driftmark. Otto Hightower sat the iron throne stating that King Viserys was indisposed. Vaemond spoke first stating his claim on the grounds that Luke was not of Velaryon blood. As Rhaenyra began her petition on behalf of her son, Lucerys, Viserys arrived. This shocked those present, especially Otto and Alicent. The King was very weak and feeble and barely able to walk unaided. However, once on the throne he said that Rhaenys was the only person present who had insight into Corlys’ wishes.
Season 1 Age 55
Rhaenys stepped forward to speak and told the assembly that Corlys had always wished for Luke to succeed him. She said she agreed and accepted Rhaenyra’s proposal for Luke and Jace to marry Baela and Rhaena. Vaemond was furious. He questioned Luke’s parentage and called Rhaenyra a whore. Viserys ordered his tongue be removed. Daemon stepped forward and decapitated Vaemond.
Season 1 Age 55
Rhaenys attended a celebratory meal. Viserys told those present that they were the people he loved the most and asked them to be nice to each other. Rhaenyra toasted Alicent and she reciprocated. Although tension remained the others made toasts in a show of harmony. Viserys called for music, looked at the happy faces around him and had a relapse. He was carried back to bed. A fight then broke out between Luke, Jace, Aemond and Aegon.

The following morning, Rhaenys found herself locked in her room. Alicent visited her and told her of the King’s death and that he had made Aegon his heir as he lay dying. Alicent told Rhaenys to swear allegiance to Aegon. She left Rhaenys locked in her room to think about her response.

After everyone left to go to the Coronation, Rhaenys was freed by Ser Erryk who helped her to escape. He told her he would take her to a boat so she could leave Kings Landing. They became separated in the crowded streets and Rhaenys was swept into the Sept with the crowds to see the coronation. As soon as she got the chance she crept out of the building.

Having retrieved her dragon from the dragon pit. Rhaenys crashed into the Sept causing the people to flee in horror. Riding her dragon she approached the dais where the royal party were. However, instead of burning them all, her dragon hissed a warning before flying off.

Rhaenys flew to Dragonstone to tell Rhaenyra that her father was dead and that Aegon II had been crowned King. She also stated that the war was not hers to fight.

Later, as they stood around the Painted Table, Rhaenys told Rhaenyra and Daemon that Corlys was on his way back.

After Corlys returned, Rhaenys told him that Viserys and his brother were both dead. Corlys said that they would remain neutral.

Some time later, Rhaenys and Corlys stood round the Painted Table with Rhaenyra. Corlys asked about Rhaenyra’s support but on hearing said it was not enough to win. Corlys then denounced the Hightower treason and offered Rhaenyra his fleet. He also said that he now controlled the Stepstones and the Narrow Sea. Corlys proposed cutting off the sea and laying siege to Kings Landing.
