This timeline gives a chronological listing of the main events in the life of the fictitious character, Joffrey Baratheon as shown in the TV series Game of Thrones.

Before Season 1 Age 0
Joffrey Baratheon was born to Cersei Baratheon, nee Lannister. Robert Baratheon believed he was the father of Joffrey but his father was actually Cersei’s twin brother Jaime.
Before Season 1 Age 1
Joffrey’s sister, Myrcella was born. She was recognised as Robert Baratheon’s daughter but was also fathered by Cersei’s twin brother Jaime.
Before Season 1 Age 6
Joffrey’s brother, Tommen was born. Tommen was also fathered by Cersei’s twin brother Jaime.
Season 1 Age 16
Joffrey accompanied his father Robert and the rest of his family when they rode north from King’s Landing to make Ned Stark Hand of the King, following the death of Jon Arryn.

Joffrey Baratheon became engaged to Ned Stark’s eldest daughter, Sansa.
Season 1 Age 16
Joffrey was walking with Sansa when they came across Arya Stark play fighting with the butcher’s son, Mycah. Joffrey began to taunt Mycah and drew his sword. Arya intervened and hit Joffrey causing Joffrey to retaliate. Arya’s direwolf, Nymeria then attacked Joffrey allowing Arya to throw Joffrey’s sword into the river. Joffrey was furious.
Season 1 Age 16
Joffrey was called in front of his father, Robert, to explain what had happened between himself and Arya. Joffrey lied and was pleased when Arya’s direwolf was sentenced to death. Joffrey also told his bodyguard, Sandor Clegane, nicknamed The Hound, to kill Mycah.
Season 1 Age 16
Joffrey Baratheon became King after Robert Baratheon died of injuries sustained during a wild boar hunt.
Season 1 Age 16
Joffrey and his mother Cersei ignored Ned Stark’s protests that Robert had made him Regent and had him arrested instead. Joffrey also ordered the arrest of Sansa and Arya Stark but Arya managed to escape.

Joffrey dismissed Barristan Selmy as Commander of the Kingsguard and replaced him with Jaime Lannister.
Season 1 Age 16
After Sansa pleaded with Joffrey for her father’s life, Joffrey agreed to be merciful provided that Ned made a full public apology. However, after Ned apologised Joffrey changed his mind and ordered his immediate execution.

Joffrey Baratheon took Sansa to see the severed heads of her father and Septa Mordane.
Season 1 Age 16
Joffrey told Sansa that he hoped to add her brother Robb’s head to his collection. Sansa replied that perhaps Robb would put Joffrey’s head on a spike. Joffrey was angry but not wanting to strike Sansa himself ordered Ser Meryn Trant to hit her.
Season 2 Age 17
Joffrey Baratheon held a tournament to celebrate his nameday and was angry when Ser Dontas Hollard turned up drunk and wanted to execute him. He allowed himself to be persuaded by Sansa to make Dontos his fool instead.
Season 2 Age 17
Joffrey was not happy when his uncle, Tyrion Lannister was made Hand of the King.

Joffrey Baratheon ordered that all his father’s bastard children be killed.
Season 2 Age 17
Joffrey ordered Sansa to pay for her brother’s treason against him. He ordered Meryn Trant to strip and beat her in the throne room but Tyrion intervened and stopped the beating.
Season 2 Age 17
Joffrey and the rest of the royal party went to the port to say farewell to Myrcella Baratheon who was being sent to Dorne to marry Trystane Martell as part of an alliance between the Crown Lands and Dorne. On the return to the Red Keep someone in the crowd threw manure at Joffrey. Joffrey then demanded that everyone in the crowd be killed prompting a riot.
Season 2 Age 17
Joffrey Baratheon was ordered by Tyrion to show himself on the battlements prior to the Battle of Blackwater.
Season 2 Age 17
Joffrey was frightened by the numbers of troops attacking King’s Landing and was relieved when he received a message from his mother ordering him to the Red Keep.
Season 2 Age 17
After King’s Landing was saved by the forces of his father and Loras Tyrell Joffrey was persuaded to cast off Sansa and become engaged to Margaery Tyrell.
Season 3 Age 18
Joffrey was surprised that Margaery wanted to speak to the smallfolk.
Season 3 Age 18
Joffrey was persuaded by Margaery to greet the people from the steps of the Red Keep. They were met by cheering crowds.

Joffrey Baratheon was given the task of escorting Sansa down the aisle to marry Tyrion. He removed Tyrion’s stool so that he could not reach to cloak Sansa and she had to stoop to enable him to complete the task.
Season 3 Age 18
Joffrey was overjoyed to learn of the deaths of Catelyn and Robb Stark at the Red Wedding.
Season 4 Age 19
Joffrey Baratheon married Margaery Tyrell. At the wedding feast Joffrey was obnoxious and taunted many of the entertainers. He then introduced a group of five dwarfs who re-enacted the Battle of the Five Kings. Joffrey taunted Tyrion and forced him to act as his cupbearer.
Season 4 Age 19
After eating some of the wedding pie, Joffrey Baratheon ordered Tyrion to bring him wine. He took a drink then fell to the floor choking. His face turned purple before he died giving the event the name Purple Wedding.
