1982 (9th January)
Catherine Princess of Wales was born Catherine Elizabeth Middleton to Michael and Carole Middleton at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading. She is often referred to as Kate.
1982 (20th June)
Kate was christened Catherine Elizabeth at St Andrew’s Church, Bradfield, Berkshire.
1983 (6th September)
Kate’s sister Philippa Charlotte was born at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading to Michael and Carole Middleton. She is known as Pippa.
1984 (May)
Kate and her family moved to Amman, Jordan because of her father’s work commitments with British Airways.
1986 (September)
Kate Middleton and her family returned to Berkshire and Kate started school at St Andrew’s School, Pangbourne, Berkshire.
1987 (during)
Katherine’s parents founded a company, Party Pieces, selling party supplies and decorations.
1987 (15th April)
Kate’s brother James William was born at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading to Michael and Carole Middleton.
1995 (September)
Kate began her education at Downe House School, Berkshire.
1996 (April)
Kate had not settled at Downe House School and moved to Marlborough College Wiltshire as a boarder.
2001 (Autumn)
Having completed her schooling, Kate Middleton entered St Andrew’s University in Scotland to study for a degree in Art History. Prince William was a fellow student.
2003 (during)
Kate and William began a romantic relationship.
2005 (Summer)
Kate graduated from St Andrew’s University.
2005 (October)
Kate became concerned by the level of media interest regarding her relationship with Prince William. While William had been in education there had been an agreement with the press to refrain from taking unofficial pictures but this ended when he and Kate graduated.
2006 (November)
Kate Middleton began working part-time as a buyer for the clothing company Jigsaw. She also worked in her parents’ family business Party Pieces.
2007 (April)
Kate and William ended their relationship. However, they remained friends and the two were often in each other’s company.
2007 (1st July)
Kate and her family attended the Concert for Diana which had been organised by William and his brother Harry in memory of their mother, Diana.
2008 (17th May)
Kate attended the wedding of Peter Philips (son of Princess Anne) and Autumn Kelly.
2010 (October)
Kate Middleton accompanied William on a 10 day trip to Kenya. During the holiday William proposed to Kate and she accepted.
2010 (November)
Kate’s parents visited William’s father, Prince Charles at his private residence at Balmoral.
2010 (16th November)
The engagement of William to Catherine (Kate) Middleton was officially announced.
2010 (December)
Kate and William attended a fundraising event for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
2011 (24th February)
Kate and William attended a lifeboat naming ceremony in Anglesey, Wales.
2011 (29th April)
The marriage of Catherine Middleton to Prince William took place at Westminster Abbey. On the morning of the wedding William had been made Duke of Cambridge. After the wedding Kate gained the title Duchess of Cambridge.
2011 (June)
Kate and William made a tour of the United States and Canada.
2011 (26th October)
Kate made her first solo engagement when she visited the charity In Kind Direct.
2012 (Summer)
Kate, William and Prince Harry were ambassadors for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
2012 (September)
Kate and William toured Singapore, Malaysia, Tuvalu and the Solomon Islands as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations.
2012 (17th September)
Kate and William filed a complaint with the French authorities after a French magazine published photographs of Kate sunbathing which had been taken from a long range camera.
2012 (3rd December)
Kate was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum (severe morning sickness). It was announced that her baby was due in July 2013.
2013 (22nd July)
A son, George Alexander Louis was born to Kate and William at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital, London.
2014 (April)
Kate, William and Prince George made a tour of New Zealand and Australia.
2014 (June)
Kate and William attended the ceremony to mark the anniversary of D-Day in Normandy, France.
2014 (8th September)
It was announced that Kate was pregnant again. She again suffered with hyperemesis gravidarum and had to cancel official engagements.
2014 (December)
Kate and William visited the United States.
2015 (2nd May)
A daughter, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was born to Kate and William at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital, London.
2015 (December)
Kate became patron of the RAF Cadets.
2016 (April)

2016 (9th June)
William was appointed a Member of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council.

A son, Louis Arthur Charles was born to William and Kate at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital, London.
2018 (19th May)
Kate attended the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. Her children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte were page boy and bridesmaid.
2018 (9th July)
Prince Louis Arthur Charles was christened at the Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.
2018 (2nd October)
Catherine returned to royal duties following the birth of Prince Louis. She visited the SC Trust Forest School and Wildlife Garden at Paddington Recreation Ground.
2018 (12th October)
Catherine attended the wedding of Princess Eugenie to Jack Brooksbank at St George’s Chapel Windsor. Her children Prince George and Princess Charlotte were page boy and bridesmaid.
2019 (June)
The Duchess became patron of the Royal Photographic Society. She is a keen photographer herself and regularly releases photos of the royal children.
2020 (March)
It was announced that Prince George and Princess Charlotte would be home-schooled during the coronavirus lockdown.
2020 (December)
Kate, William and the royal children attended a pantomime at the London Palladium, performed for keyworkers during the coronavirus pandemic.
2021 (17th April)
Catherine attended the funeral of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh who was buried in St George’s Chapel, Windsor.
2022 (2nd June)
A four-day programme of events to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee began with the Trooping of the Colour. Catherine and William were present at all events and appeared with the royal family and their children on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
2022 (8th September)
William became heir to the throne after his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, died at Balmoral Castle, Scotland. His father Charles became King Charles III.
2022 (8th September)
King Charles made his first public broadcast. During the speech he confirmed that William would become Prince of Wales, Duke of Cornwall, Earl of Chester and Duke of Rothesay. Catherine took the title Catherine Princess of Wales.
2022 (19th September)
Catherine, Princess of Wales attended the funeral services for Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey and Windsor Castle.
