1984 (17th January)
Calvin Harris was born Adam Richard Wiles to David Wiles and his wife Pamela in Dumfries, Scotland. He was the couple’s third child, his sister Sophie and brother Edward had been born earlier.
1988 (September)
Adam Wiles began his education at Calside Primary School.
1996 (September)
Having left Primary School, Wiles began his secondary education at Dumfries High School.
1998 (around)
Young Adam Wiles became very interested in electronic music. He began making music on his Amiga computer.
1999 (during)
Wiles left school having gained no qualifications. He found employment in a fish factory before becomming a shelf stacker in Safeway. He spent most of his wages on DJ equipment which he taught himself to use and recorded a number of music demos.
2002 (early)
Using the pseudonym ‘Stouffer’ Wiles released two songs, ‘Da Bongos’ and Brighter Days’.
2003 (around)
Wiles moved to London hoping to be able to further his music career. He worked shifts in Marks and Spencer to pay bills.
2004 (during)
Still in London, Adam’s song ‘Let Me Know’ was released with Ayah Marar singing vocals. Disappointed that his time in London had not proved lucrative, Wiles returned to Scotland.

Wiles worked in the Dumfries Marks and Spencer but continued making music in his spare time. He began posting his music to the then popular social media platform, My Space.
2006 (during)
Mark Gillespie, who had recently formed a music management company, heard Adam’s music and decided to sign him. Wiles decided to use the name Calvin Harris for his music because he felt it fitted better with the music he was making at the time.

Harris gave up his job at Marks and Spencer to concentrate on music full time.

Harris released a remix of the song ‘Rock Steady’ by the group All Saints.
2007 (March)
Calvin Harris was chosen to support Faithless and Groove Armada on their tour.

The single ‘Acceptable in the 80s’ was released. It reached number 10 in the UK charts.

The single ‘The Girls’ was released. It reached number 3 in the UK charts.

Kylie Minogue’s album ‘X’ was released. It featured two songs written by Harris, ‘Heart Beat Rock’ and ‘In My Arms’.

Calvin Harris featured on the Dizzee Rascal single ‘Dance Wiv Me’. It reached number 1 in the UK charts.

Music by Harris was featured on BBC Radio 1’s programme Essential Mix.

The single ‘I’m Not Alone’ was released. It reached number 1 in the UK charts.

The single ‘Ready For The Weekend’ was released. It reached number 3 in the UK charts.

Calvin Harris produced Dizzee Rascal’s single ‘Holiday’ which reached number 1 in the UK charts.

The album ‘Ready For The Weekend’ was released. It reached number 1 in the UK charts.
2009 (2nd November)
The single ‘Flashback’ was released. It reached number 18 in the UK charts.
2010 (8th February)
The single ‘You Used to Hold Me’ was released. It reached number 27 in the UK charts.
2010 (March)
Calvin Harris launched his own record label – Fly Eye Records specialising in electronic dance music.

Calvin Harris produced the single ‘Hands’ by The Ting Tings.
2010 (14th November)
Harris invaded the X Factor stage wearing a pineapple on his head while Jedward were performing.
2011 (10th June)
The single ‘Bounce’ featuring singer Kelis was released. It reached number 2 in the UK charts.

American singer Rihanna chose Calvin Harris to support the European leg of her Loud Tour.
