BTS Timeline

2010 (Autumn)
South Korean entertainment company Big Hit Entertainment discovered the members of the group individually. Big Hit Entertainment founder Bang Si-hyuk wanted to form them into a superstar K-Pop group.
2010 (Autumn)
The seven young men selected for the group – Jin (Kim Seok-jin), Suga (Min Yoon-gi), J-Hope (Jung Ho-seok), RM (Kim Nam-joon), Jimin (Park Ji-min), V (Kim Tae-hyung), Jungkook (Jeon Jung-kook) began a period of intensive training. The group was named Bangtan Sonyeondan which translates to Bulletproof Boy Scouts. It was shortened to the initials BTS.
2011 (early)
The new group began to feature on tracks by popular artists 2AM and Lee Seung-gi.
2013 (early)
The members of BTS were gaining a following on social media as well as Soundcloud and YouTube.
2013 (11th June)
BTS released their first single ‘No More Dream’. It reached number 84 in the South Korean charts.
2013 (12th June)
BTS released their first album ‘2 Cool 4 Skool’. It reached number 5 in the South Korean Album charts.
2013 (16th June)
A second single ‘We Are Bulletproof Pt 2’ was released.
2013 (11th September)
The EP (Extended Play) ‘O!RUL8,2?’ was released. It reached number 4 in the South Korean charts.

The single ‘N.O’ was released. It was the lead single from the EP ‘O!RUL8,2?’.
2014 (12th February)
A second EP ‘Skool Luv Affair’ was released. It reached number 1 in the South Korean and number 12 in the US charts.
2014 (12th February)
‘Boy in Luv’ the lead track from the ‘Skool luv Affair’ album was released as a single.
2014 (Spring)
BTS made appearances on a number of Korean music shows.
2014 (6th April)
‘Just One Day’ another track from the ‘Skool luv Affair’ album was released as a single.
2014 (July)
BTS hosted a free concert in West Hollywood, Los Angeles, United States.
2014 (19th August)
The single ‘Danger’ from the album ‘Dark & Wild’ was released.
2014 (20th August)
The album ‘Dark & Wild’ was released. It reached number 2 in the South Korean charts.
2014 (17th October)
BTS began their first tour. The Red Bullet Tour included 10 shows.
2014 (21st October)
The single ‘War of Hormone’ from the album ‘Dark & Wild’ was released.
2014 (24th December)
The album ‘Wake Up’ was released. It was the first Japanese language album released by the group and included Japanese versions of some of their previous singles. It reached number 3 in the Japanese charts.
2015 (10th February)
BTS began a 6 show tour of Japan called the ‘Wake Up: Open Your Eyes’ Tour after their first Japanese album.
2015 (29th April)
The Single ‘I Need U’ was released. It reached number 4 in Japan and number 5 in the South Korean charts.

The EP ‘The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt 1’ was released. It reached number 1 in the South Korean charts.
2015 (6th June)
The Red Bullet Tour was extended to include further shows in Australia, North and Central America.
2015 (24th June)
The Single ‘Dope’ was released.
2015 (27th November)
BTS began their 2015 BTS Live tour.
2015 (30th November)
A fourth EP was released. ‘The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt 2’ reached number 15 in Japan and number 1 in the South Korean charts.
2015 (30th November)
The single ‘Run’ was released. It reached number 2 in Japan and number 8 in the South Korean charts.
2016 (19th April)
The single ‘Epilogue: Young Forever’ was released.
2016 (2nd May)
The album ‘The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever’ was released. It reached number 107 in the US, number 15 in Japan and number 1 in the South Korean charts.
2016 (2nd May)
The single ‘Fire’ was released. It reached number 30 in Japan and number 7 in the South Korean charts.
2016 (7th May)
BTS began and extension of their 2015 BTS Live tour, entitled 2016 BTS Live.
2016 (15th May)
The single ‘Save Me’ was released. It reached number 19 in the South Korean charts.
2016 (7th September)
BTS released their second Japanese album ‘Youth’. It topped the Japanese album charts.
2016 (10th October)
‘The album ‘Wings’ was released. It reached number 26 in the US, number 11 in Japan and number 1 in the South Korean charts.
2016 (10th October)
The single ‘Blood Sweat & Tears’ was released. It reached number 1 in the Japanese and South Korean charts.
2016 (19th November)
‘The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever’ won Album of the Year at the South Korean Melon Music Awards.
2017 (13th February)
‘The album ‘Wings’ was re-packaged and re-released under the title ‘You Never Walk Alone’. It reached number 1 in the South Korean charts.
2017 (18th February)
BTS began their Wings Tour, playing 40 shows in 12 countries.
2017 (13th February)
The single ‘Spring Day’ was released. It reached number 38 in Japan and number 1 in the South Korean charts.
2017 (20th February)
The single ‘Not Today’ was released. It reached number 23 in Japan and number 6 in the South Korean charts.
2017 (May)
BTS won Top Social Artist at the US Billboard Music Awards.
2017 (July)
The group announced that their initials BTS would additionally stand for Beyond the Scene.
2017 (18th September)
The album ‘Love Yourself: Her’ was released. It reached number 14 in the UK, number 7 in the US and number 1 in the Japanese and South Korean charts.
2017 (19th November)
BTS performed at the American Music Awards, held at the Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles, United States.
2017 (2nd December)
The single ‘DNA’ was released. It reached number 90 in the UK, number 67 in the US and number 1 in the Japanese and South Korean charts.
2017 (2nd December)
The single ‘Spring Day’ won best single at the Melon Music Awards.
2018 (March)
BTS released an eight-episode documentary ‘Burn the Stage’ on YouTube Premium, depicting back stage scenes from the 2017 Wings Tour.
2018 (4th April)
The single ‘Don’t Leave Me’ was released. It reached number 21 in Japan and number 20 in the South Korean charts.

A third Japanese album ‘Face Yourself’ was released. It reached number 78 in the UK, number 43 in the US and number 1 in the Japanese charts.
2018 (18th May)
The album ‘Love Yourself: Tear’ was released. It reached number 8 in the UK, number 3 in Japan and number 1 in the US and South Korean charts.

BTS began their ‘Love Yourself’ World Tour comprising 42 shows.

BTS renewed their contract with Big Hit Entertainment for a further 8 years.

The single ‘Waste It On Me’ in collaboration with Steve Aoki, was released. It reached number 89 in the US, number 57 in the UK, number 19 in Japan and number 80 in the South Korean charts.
2019 (12th April)
The single ‘Boy With Luv’ featuring Halsey, was released. It reached number 13 in the UK, number 8 in the US, number 7 in Japan and number 1 in the South Korean charts.

The EP ‘Map of the Soul: Persona’ was released. It reached number 2 in Japan and number 1 in the UK, US and South Korean charts.
2019 (4th May)
BTS extended their ‘Love Yourself’ tour with an additional 20 shows.
2019 (7th June)
The single ‘Dream Glow’ featuring Charli XCX, was released. It reached number 61 in the UK and number 75 in the South Korean charts.

The single ‘A Brand New Day’ featuring Zara Larsson, was released. It reached number 103 in the South Korean charts.

The single ‘All Night’ featuring rapper Juice Wrld, was released. It reached number 102 in the South Korean charts.

The single ‘Heartbeat’ was released. It reached number 62 in the South Korean charts.

The album ‘BTS World: Original Soundtrack’ from the mobile game BTS World, was released. It reached number 26 in the US, number 4 in Japan and number 1 in the South Korean charts.

The Japanese single ‘Lights / Boy with Luv’ was released. It reached number 1 in the Japanese charts.
2019 (18th October)
The single ‘Make It Right’ featuring Lauv, was released. It reached number 95 in the US, number 68 in the UK, number 54 in Japan and number 10 in the South Korean charts.
2020 (17th January)
The single ‘Black Swan’ was released. It reached number 57 in the US, number 46 in the UK, number 31 in Japan and number 7 in the South Korean charts.
2020 (21st February)
The single ‘On’ was released. It reached number 21 in the UK, number 8 in Japan, number 4 in the US and number 1 in the South Korean charts.

The album ‘Map of the Soul: 7 – The Journey’ was released. It reached number 1 in many countries around the World.
2020 (11th April)
The BTS Map of the Soul Tour was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
2020 (19th June)
The Japanese single ‘Stay Gold’ was released. It reached number 12 in Japan and number 52 in the South Korean charts.
2020 (14th July)
The Japanese album ‘Map of the Soul 7: The Journey’ was released. It reached number 35 in the UK, number 14 in the US and number 1 in Japan.
2020 (21st August)
The English language single ‘Dynamite’ was released. It reached number 3 in the UK, number 2 in Japan and number 1 in the US and South Korean charts.
2020 (2nd October)
The remix single ‘Savage Love’ was released. It reached number 73 in Japan, number 6 in South Korea and number 1 in the US charts.
2020 (10th – 11th October)
A pay-per-view online concert BTS Map of the Soul ON:E was held.
2020 (20th November)
The album ‘Be’ was released. It reached number 2 in the UK and number 1 in many other countries including the US, Japan and South Korea.

The single ‘Life Goes On’ was released. It reached number 10 in the UK, number 10 in Japan, number 3 in South Korea and number 1 in the US charts.
2021 (4th March)
BTS performed their single ‘Dynamite’ at the Grammy Awards Ceremony.
2021 (2nd April)
The single ‘Film Out’ was released. It reached number 81 in the US, number 73 in the UK and number 1 in Japan.
2021 (21st May)
The single ‘Butter’ was released. It reached number 3 in the UK and number 1 in the US, Japan and South Korean charts.
2021 (16th June)
The Japanese compilation album ‘BTS The Best’ was released. It reached number 71 in the UK, number 19 in the US and number 1 in Japan.
2021 (9th July)
The single ‘Permission to Dance’ was released. It reached number 16 in the UK and number 1 in the US, Japan and South Korean charts.
2021 (24th September)
The single ‘My Universe’ by BTS and Coldplay was released. It reached number 3 in the UK, number 2 in South Korea and Japan and number 1 in the US charts.
2021 (24th October)
An online concert ‘Permission to Dance on Stage’ in Seoul.
2022 (10th March)
BTS performed the first of three live shows at the Seoul Olympic Stadium.
2022 (Spring)
The group performed at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
2022 (3rd April)
BTS performed their single ‘Butter’ at the Grammy Awards Ceremony in Las Vegas.
2022 (10th June)
The compilation album ‘Proof’ was released. It reached number 8 in the UK and number 1 in the US and South Korean charts.
2022 (10th June)
The single ‘Yet to Come (The Most Beautiful Moment)’ was released. It reached number 27 in the UK, number 13 in the US charts and number 1 in South Korea.
