Judges Appointed
Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh, Paula Abdul was guest judge for London auditions
Host
Kate Thornton was appointed host of X Factor and Ben Shephard host of Xtra Factor
19th August
1st Audition shown on TV

Auditions were held in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Dublin, Leeds and Glasgow. Each TV programme showed a selection of auditions from different locations.

Categories Allocated at the end of the 6th Audition show.

Judges were allocated categories:
Simon Cowell – 16-24 year olds, Sharon Osbourne – over 25s, Louis Walsh – groups

30th September
Bootcamp
7 contestants in each category were selected to go to Judges’ Houses. However Simon Cowell decided he had made a mistake and wanted an 8th contestant to go through so all judges selected an additional contestant.
7th October

4 Contestants in each category were selected to go to the next round:
16 – 24 years – Nikitta Angus, Leona Lewis, Ashley McKenzie, Ray Quinn
Over 25s – Robert Allen, Kerry McGregor, Ben Mills, Dionne Mitchell
Groups – 4Sure, Avenue, The MacDonald Brothers, The Unconventionals

Prior to Live Shows
The Group Avenue were found to have broken the rules over an existing record contract and were disqualified. The group Eton Road were put through in their place.
