1997 (30th September)
Max Emilian Verstappen was born to Jos Verstappen and Sophie Kumpen in Hasselt, Belgium. His mother is Belgian and competed in karting competitions and his father is a former Dutch Formula One driver. He had dual nationality – Dutch and Belgian.
1999 (22nd October)
Max’s sister, Victoria Jane, was born to Jos Verstappen and Sophie Kumpen.
2002 (during)
At the age of four years, Max began karting.
2005 (during)
Verstappen competed in the Limburgs Kart Championship Mini Junior League and finished second in the competition.
2006 (during)
Verstappen competed in the Rotax Max Minimax class and won the Belgian competition.
2007 (during)
Verstappen won the Dutch and Belgian Rotax Max Minimax class.
2008 (during)
Verstappen’s parents separated. Although he lived with his mother in Bree, Belgium, Max spent more of his time in the Netherlands.
2008 (during)
Max competed in the Rotax Max Minimax class and won the Belgian competition. He also won the Belgian Cadet championship and the BNL Minimax.
2009 (during)
Verstappen joined Team Pex Racing and won the Rotax Minimax VAS Championship. He also won the BNL Minimax Karting Series and the Belgian KF5 Championships.
2009 (Autumn)
Verstappen attended a HAVO school in the Netherlands.
2010 (during)
Max Verstappen was signed by CRG and began competing international karting stage. He came second to Alexander Albon in the KFC World Cup. The same year he won the WSK Euro and World Series as well as the WSK Nations Cup.
2011 (during)
Verstappen was the winner of the WSK Euro Series.
2012 (during)
Max moved up to the KF2 and KZ2 classes having been picked for the Intrepid Driver Program. He won the WSK Master Series and the South Garda Winter Cup.
2012 (during)
Max left the Intrepid Driver Program and returned to the CRG team.
2013 (during)
Verstappen won the CIK-FIA World and European KZ Championships. He also won the WSK Master Series in KZ2 class and the WSK Euro Series in KZ1 class. He also won the South Garda Winter Cup in KF2 class.
2013 (Spring)
Max dropped out of school to focus on driving.
2013 (October)
Max began trying for a number of teams in Formula 3 and Formula 2.
2014 (during)
Jos Verstappen married Kelly van der Waal.
2014 (during)
Max competed in the Formula 3 European Championship racing for Van Amersfoort Racing. He finished in third place.
2014 (16th January)
It was announced that Verstappen would take part in the Florida Winter Series, a competition organised by the Ferrari Driver Academy.
2014 (August)
Max Verstappen joined the Red Bull Junior Team.
2014 (September)
Max’s half-sister Blue Jaye was born to Jos Verstappen and Kelly van der Waal.
2015 (during)
It was announced that Verstappen would take part in the Formula One World Championship driving for Scuderia Toro Rosso, owned by Red Bull.
2015 (early)
Verstappen took the decision to drive for the Netherlands rather than Belgium. He stated that he felt more Dutch than Belgian.
2015 (15th March)
Max competed in the Australian Grand Prix held at Melbourne. He was the youngest person to ever compete in a Grand Prix race.
2015 (October)
Having reached the age of 18 years, Verstappen chose to relinquish his Belgian nationality and become a Dutch citizen. He also moved to Monaco the same month.
2016 (during)
Verstappen began the Formula One season racing for Torro Rosso.
2016 (5th May)
It was announced that Verstappen would move to the Red Bull team replacing Daniil Kvyat.
2016 (15th May)
Max Verstappen won the Spanish Grand Prix on his debut for Red Bull, becoming the youngest person to ever win a Grand Prix. He finished the championships in 5th Place.
2017 (during)
Verstappen remained with Red Bull and finished the season in 6th place.
2017 (2nd June)
Jos Verstappen and Kelly van der Waal were divorced.
2018 (around)
Jos Verstappen married Sandy Sijtsma.
2018 (during)
Max Verstappen finished the season in 4th place.
2019 (during)
Max’s half-brother Jason Jaxx was born to Jos Verstappen and Sandy Sijtsma.
2019 (4th August)
Max secured his first pole position start in the Hungarian Grand Prix. He finished the race in second place behind Lewis Hamilton.
2019 (December)
Verstappen finished the season in 3rd place behind Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton.
2020 (early)
Max extended his contract with Red Bull until the end of 2023.
2020 (during)
Max’s half-sister Faye was born to Jos Verstappen and Sandy Sijtsma.
2020 (during)
The 2020 Formula One season was disrupted due to the Covid 19 pandemic. It eventually got underway in July and 17 races were run. Verstappen finished the season in 3rd place.
2021 (during)
The 2021 Formula One season began strongly for Verstappen with fierce rivalry between him and Lewis Hamilton.
2021 (23rd May)
Verstappen became the lead driver in the Championship. It was the first time he had topped the championship in his F1 career.
2021 (12th December)
After a thrilling F1 race at Abu Dhabi Verstappen was crowned the 2021 World F1 champion. He had gone into the race tied on points with Lewis Hamilton. Verstappen was able to take the lead on the last lap following an incident that required a safety car.
2022 (March)
Max signed a 5 year extension contract with Red Bull. This secured his seat until 2028.
