Alfa Romeo took part in Formula One in 1950 and 1951 but then retired from the sport until 1979. On its return to the sport, Alfa Romeo only had limited success and again retired from the sport in 1985. Alfa Romeo sponsored Scuderia Ferrari in 2015 and two years later sponsored Sauber. In 2019 Swiss firm Sauber rebranded as Alfa Romeo Racing.
